1st Grade

Students explore how the adults and babies of marine animals are both similar and different from each other through a matching activity.
2nd Grade
Dice, Data, & Diversity
in the Deep Sea
Students learn about the diversity of life in different ocean habitats and work in small groups to gather data on diversity. Students will create and color dice featuring deep-sea animals, allowing them to collect data and study these animals.
3rd Grade
A Day in the Life of a Larval Biologist
Students practice describing larvae with and without the scientific vocabulary used by biologists and use observations and math to sort larvae and collect data.
4th Grade
Mazes, Maps, & Magnificent Animals
in the Deep Sea
Students use map-based data to identify the locations of hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, and brine pools to learn about these deep-sea habitats, including the types of animals that inhabit different sites.
5th Grade
Alvin Engineer: Equip Your Submersible
Students learn about different equipment used on research dives with the Alvin submersible and generate multiple solutions by selecting the correct equipment to meet specific research goals and constraints for 4 dive missions.
