February 15, 2010 Haiti Disaster Documented for Rescue FilmA production team from The Stephen Low Company have just completed filming in and around Port-au-Prince, Haiti as part of the giant screen film project "Rescue". Filming encompassed on-the-ground and in-the air coverage of the devastated area and emergency relief operations underway.
On the ground, the crew followed relief operations underway by U.S. Air Force and Canadian Navy personnel and the work of international NGOs working to treat and transport Earthquake victims. Spacecam helicopter aerials captured the extent of the devastation over hundreds of square kilometres of the island. Aerial filming also included coverage onboard giant U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemasters and views of participating Canadian naval destroyer HMCS Athabascan and frigate HMCS Halifax.
The Film. Filmed for presentation in IMAX 3D and 2D, Rescue documents the work of U.S. and international counterparts (U.S. Navy, Air Force and Air National Guard and NGOs) and Canada’s naval forces — personnel engaged in the vital work of responding to major disasters and emergencies globally. The film propels giant screen audiences into the extreme, high-stakes world of disaster response, where lives dangle in the balance; where individuals, teams and machines are thrust into chaos in aid of strangers, sometimes into violent human contagions or natural catastrophe, and often at the ends of the Earth.
About the Project. The production is being filmed in 3D for release to IMAX and other giant screen theatres worldwide. Rescue is produced by The Stephen Low Company in association with K2 Communications.
